If there could only be just one park in Washington County it would have to be Cobscook Bay State Park. It is stunning beautiful, serene and laid back. For the most part it is made up of fingers of land that go out into the bay so you have water on three sides. The locals hang out there to clam, picnic, camp out and hold family gatherings. It’s the best kept secrete on the Eastern Sea Board. You can purchase a peck license at Cobscook Bay State Park. Great thing about clamming at Cobscook is that you after your done clamming you can steam them up at one of the picnic areas. How fresh is that? I love to buy lobsters at the Pound in Cutler Maine and cook them up at Cobscook . If I can find a few clams I throw them in as well.It also has: Beachcombing, birdwatching, picnicking, boating, camping, canoeing, sea kayaking, walking (roads and paths), campground, group picnic shelter, picnic area, playground, RV dumping station, showers, and trailered boat launch.
Cutler Coast Public Reserved LandWhen Pejebscott paper company (Hurst Corporation) abandoned it’s wood lands in Washington County they had the foresight to do a most amazing thing. They gave much of their land holdings along the Coast of Washington County to the State of Maine. This includes what has to be the most beautiful hike along the coast of Maine the Bold Coast Trials in Cutler Maine. If you hike you have to check this out.
